The Slingshot-ES reduces the total cost of ownership (TCO) of storage through solutions that are easier to install, manage, and support while also reducing rack space, cabling and power consumption. Enhance Front-end Connectivity

The Slingshot-ES Platform can be deployed between storage controllers and application servers or NAS heads, enhancing performance and scalability by providing multiple 2Gb FC ports in the controller. In addition, such offerings consume less space and power than those with discrete switches, and offer the added benefit of unified management of system and switch.

Enhance Back-end Performance and Scalability

The Slingshot-ES Platform can also be deployed between storage controllers and disk trays to create a SAN within a storage system. By changing cabling from daisy chained drive trays to switched direct connections, the Slingshot-ES dramatically improves performance, scalability, and fault isolation capabilities. In addition, the Slingshot-ES Platform allows vendors to exploit Fibre Channel performance, distance and connectivity advantages to create enhanced features such as data migration between systems, multiple controller fail over, and LAN-free backup.

The Slingshot-ES Platform leverages the proven technology deployed in the Slingshot Family of 2Gb Open Fabric Fibre Channel Switches that have been shipping since April 2001. The scalable chipset and firmware provide the flexibility to quickly customize port count and feature set. A robust set of APIs and support for industry standard MIBs provides the option to unify management of switch and storage system to reduce TCO by creating a solution that is easier to install and support.
