NetWorker PowerSnap Module for Oracle for EMC CLARiiON delivers serverless backup and recovery of Oracle databases stored on EMC CLARiiON FC4700 Enterprise Storage Systems. Managed by NetWorker, this solution is fully integrated with EMC SnapView technology and Oracle to provide automated protection and optimize database performance. This solution copies the Oracle data directly from the snapshot to tape using a separate proxy client, so the Oracle database remains fully accessible and the database server performance is not impacted during backup. With NetWorker PowerSnap Module for Oracle for EMC CLARiiON you can maximize your Oracle performance and reduce downtime costs.

The NetWorker PowerSnap Module for Oracle for EMC CLARiiON protects Oracle databases without impacting Oracle performance. To quiesce the database, PowerSnap utilizes Oracle’s "alter tablespace" function. But once the snapshot is complete, Oracle is returned to its original state. This avoids the sluggishness that can occur from filling log files during backups of large, highly active databases. Serverless backup is performed by a separate proxy client that copies the data directly from the snapshot to tape. PowerSnap enables DBA’s to backup Oracle databases at anytime, as often as desired, without impacting end user performance – eliminating the need for a backup window.

Traditional Oracle backup methods rely on Oracle log files and the database server to perform online backups. NetWorker automatically manages both components during backup and recovery operations.

Requirements

Database Server Requirements

    The database server that is hosting Oracle must be running Sun Solaris 7 or greater.

    The Oracle base must be version Oracle 8.x.

    The database server is licensed with NetWorker PowerSnap Module for Oracle for EMC CLARiiON.

Backup Server Requirements

    The backup server must be running on Sun Solaris 7 or greater to match the database server.

NetWorker Server Requirements

    The NetWorker Server must be version 6.1 or greater.
