Emulex Fibre Channel Hubs

Overview

Features | Management

The LH5000 is a 10 port Fibre Channel hub with built in intelligence. There are two versions:

  • The GBIC model has 8 GBIC ports in the front and 2 DE-9 copper ports in the back.
  • The copper model has 8 DE-9 copper ports in the front and 2 DE-9 copper ports in the back.

By default, the digital hub is configured as a single 10 port hub. Using the management options the hub can be configured as two separate five port hubs. The ports are ordered in the following manner: port 1 is the upper left front port and following to the right are ports 2, 3, and 4. Port 5 is the upper back port and similarly ports 6, 7, 8, and 9 are the front bottom ports from left to right and port 10 is the back bottom port.

Features

  • 10 hot-cascadeable ports in a half width, 1U high standard 19 inch rack.
  • 10 copper ports or 8 hot-pluggable GBIC ports and 2 copper ports.
  • Configurable as a single ten port hub or two 5 port hubs for separate FC loops.
  • Full re-timing of incoming data using an internal oscillator.
  • Elimination of jitter transfer which permits nearly unlimited cascading of Digital Hubs.
  • Automatic isolation of faults, correction of error conditions, and management statistics on a per port basis.
  • Improvement of arbitrated loop stability and reliability through programmable port bypass criteria.
  • Non-disruptive insertion and removal of fibre links.
  • Manual port bypass via the management interface.
  • Full support of Serial ID for GBIC module.
  • LED indication for port status on a per port basis.
  • Hub management with command line interface via direct console or Telnet connection.
  • Hub management with a web browser interface via Ethernet connection.
  • Hub management with an SNMP MIB client software.
  • Management software is user-upgradable as Emulex releases improved versions.

Management

The LH5000 provides port management and monitoring via two types of connections -

  • Console (RS232 and RJ12) serial data
    Supports command line interface
  • 10BaseT Ethernet (RJ45) port.
Supports command line interface, web manager and SNMP MIB

Each interface provides security against unauthorized configuration changes: The command line and web interfaces require a password before a change is effected. SNMP requires the client to be a member of a write-enabled SNMP community.

The command line interface requires a understanding of the command set and command structure. The web manager has a friendly GUI interface which executes HTML code through web browsers. The SNMP MIB interface is compatible with major SNMP management systems such as OpenView and NetView.
