Business Continuity Suite

Hitachi TrueCopy replicates information locally between the Hitachi Freedom Storage™ Lightning 9900™ and Lightning 9900 V Series storage systems within your data center, or to remote models in distributed centers anywhere in the world, with minimum performance impact. Coupled with products from CNT®, INRANGE® and Nishan Systems™, Hitachi TrueCopy offers long distance, cost-effective data replication over IP networks.

Products offered through the Hitachi Freedom Data Networks™ portfolio offer customers multiple methods, switches, and protocols to provide TrueCopy replication over native IP networks. Our open approach for long distance IP transport delivers a variety of solutions for data replication and extension. Vendor and model selection will be driven by customer application requirements, such as:

  • Storage-side protocols (Fibre Channel, ESCON, FICON, iSCSI)
  • Packet compression
  • Number of storage-side ports, and network ports
  • Security features
  • IP bandwidth and network infrastructure

Protect against rolling disasters with Hitachi NanoCopy™, the industry's first storage solution technology that automates copy making without downtime. NanoCopy creates a continuous stream of point-in-time copies between primary and secondary Lightning 9900 and Lightning 9900 V systems, anywhere in the world, with full data integrity.

Hitachi ShadowImage™ delivers parallel processing, improving productivity through consolidated workload operations. With ShadowImage, you can replicate information within our storage system without disrupting operations or overall performance levels. Once copied, data can be used for data warehousing/data mining applications, backup and recovery, or application development, allowing more complete and frequent, testing for faster deployment. Combined with Hitachi TrueCopy, ShadowImage enables you to maintain up to 20 copies of critical information.

Hitachi Extended Remote Copy (HXRC), a cross-license technology between Hitachi Data Systems and IBM, demonstrates Hitachi's commitment to multi-vendor compatibility. It allows you to create and share server-based remote copies between Lightning 9900 and Lightning 9900 V Series systems and an IBM® Shark™. Hitachi Data Systems is the only storage vendor capable of fully supporting IBM XRC command sets.

Hitachi Data Systems delivers extra business security through a unique remote feature for preventative maintenance. Hi-Track expert systems monitor your Hitachi Freedom Storage systems and call the Support Center for assistance. Microcode patches can usually be performed directly over the phone—providing the added assurance of a full-time product specialist who guards against unforeseen business disruption.

Hitachi Data Systems has demonstrated proven Hitachi TrueCopy support for Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex™ (GDPS), an IBM service offering for system failover, workload balancing, and data mirroring. We offer a number of services to help you plan, integrate, and deploy your GDPS environment based on Lightning 9900 and/or Lightning 9900 V Series storage systems.

Hitachi Database Validator (DB Validator)

DB Validator is a Hitachi-developed solution that provides support for Oracle Hardware Assisted Resilient Data (H.A.R.D.). DB Validator protects data integrity by ensuring that no corrupt data is ever written to the protected Oracle volumes on Hitachi Freedom Storage Lightning 9900 V Series systems without performance impact. It also protects future availability and recoverability of the data by ensuring that any corrupt data is detected immediately. DB Validator allows the database server to detect problems immediately and re-write non-corrupted data, enabling the system administrator to instantly troubleshoot the cause of the corruption and correct it before additional data can be affected. Undetected corrupted data can bring down the database application, leading to costly downtime in lost sales and productivity, DB Validator prevents this, since issues detected immediately can be more efficiently resolved with no impact

DB Validator is available with Hitachi Freedom Storage™ Lightning 9900™ V Series storage systems and is compatible with Oracle 8i, Oracle 9i, and Oracle 9i Release 2 with Oracle H.A.R.D enabled. Hitachi Resource Manager™ and Hi-Track® are required for error logging. We also offer DB Validator Implementation services to ensure proper installation and implementation of the solution in the customer’s Oracle environment.

Backup and Recovery Suite

Hitachi Multiplatform Backup/Restore (HMBR) software allows you to save a significant amount of money by utilizing your already-existing S/390® host, ATL environment, and established procedures to back up your open system data. The "any-to-any" connectivity of the Lightning 9900 Series enables S/390 systems to access Windows NT®, Windows® 2000, and UNIX® (e.g., Solaris™, AIX®) open systems LUNs as 3390-3 or 3390-9 devices via standard utilities such as DFDSS™ or FDR.

Hitachi e-Copy, a feature within Lightning 9900 V Series systems, enables non-disruptive backups directly from disk to tape in a SAN environment—removing server CPU and I/O overhead during actual data movement. This significantly shortens the time required for backups.

CommVault®QiNetix™ Galaxy™ data and storage management software takes traditional backup and recovery to new industry standards for ease of use, configuration, reliability, scalability, and flexible deployment. Benefits:

Scalable from the desktop to the data center, NetBackup provides quick, reliable backup/recovery solutions for heterogeneous environments.

Tantia™ Technologies also contributes to the Freedom Storage Software offerings with Tantia Technologies HARBOR® Backup. HARBOR Backup safeguards your information with a user-controlled, centralized backup and recovery solution for distributed environments.
