SAIT-1
The SAIT-1 format offers a data capacity rate of 500GB (1.3TB compressed), and a 30MB/s (78MB/s compressed) data transfer rate. This capacity is obtained as a result of much higher areal recording densities achievable with helical-scan technology and by using the S-AIT cartridge, which, at one-half inch wide and 600 meters long, contains five times the recordable area of 8mm AIT media.
SAIT-2
SAIT-2 is now in development. SAIT-2 follows the S-AIT roadmap specifications of doubling capacity and performance from the prior generation, and is expected to offer 1TB of native capacity (2.6TB compressed), with a data transfer rate of 60MB/s (156MB/s compressed).
SAIT-3
SAIT-3 is now in advanced development. SAIT-3 is planned to offer 2TB of native capacity (5.2TB compressed), with a data transfer rate of 120MB/s (312MB/s compressed).
SAIT-4
SAIT-4, in research and development demonstration phase, will incorporate Sony's prior published areal density achievement of 6mb/in2. SAIT-4 is planned to offer 4TB of native capacity (10.4TB compressed), with a data transfer rate of 240MB/s (624MB/s compressed).
